The Arizona State Green Party will meet from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 and you are invited. The AZGP will meet over zoom.
You will have a chance to meet with Greens from all over Arizona. We will be conducting elections for 1st Vice Chair, Media Coordinator, GPUS Delegate and GPUS Alternate Delegate on the State Committee. All registered greens in attendance are invited to vote.
The Green Party is committed to values-based politics, as expressed in our Ten Key Values. These values guide us in countering and changing a system that extols exploitation, unsustainable consumption, and destructive competition.
In this century, it is imperative that we find sound economic ways to make systemic changes. It is our responsibility to rebuild the political culture of the United States in order to stop wars of aggression, short-sighted ecological destruction, erosion of our rights, and the system that perpetuates social and economic injustice. In other words, we must fundamentally change our society's broken political system.
Now is the time to build a bridge from the world we have to the better world we know is possible.
Now is the time to grow a sustainable political force to work for grassroots democracy, nonviolence, social justice, and ecological wisdom.
We look forward to meeting with you on May 22nd!
Michael E. Cease
AZGP Secretary

Bylaw Amendment Proposals (Section G. of the Agenda)
State Committee Meetings Quorum and Proxies bylaw amendment proposal
Original Text:
Article V: Meetings
D. Quorum and Proxies:
A quorum shall exist if there is a minimum of two thirds (2/3) of the organized County Green Parties present. Proxies will not be recognized by the AZGP.
Proposed Amendment:
Article V: Meetings
D. State Committee Meetings Quorum and Proxies:
Fifty-one percent (51%) of the elected officers in filled positions on the State Committee must be present to constitute a quorum at any State Committee meeting. Vacant positions, on-leave positions and non-voting, appointed officer positions do not count in the quorum requirements. Additionally, at least 60% of all active recognized county chapters must be represented in a quorum in order to ensure geographic diversity. Proxies will not be recognized by the AZGP.
Summary Discussion Notes*
Questions, comments, concerns and clarifications |
Responses |
Geographic diversity |
incorporated |
Specifying exact “before” and “after” language |
incorporated |
“50% +1” language mathematically confusing |
Eliminated and replaced with 51% |
Suggested use of 10% or 40% or 45% instead of 51% |
These percentages do not meet the bare minimum criteria of just a simple majority in order to prevent minority decision-making |
Suggested use of 67% (GPPC-SC) or 89% (rolling average) or 100% |
While these percentages do exceed the minimum criteria to avoid minority decision-making, they might be unnecessarily strict and pose other problems |
Concerns about hypothetical denial of quorum |
Not mathematically valid when using 51%; however, could be a valid concern with respect to using 67% or 89% or 100% |
Question on examples of non-voting, appointed officer positions |
answered |
Punctuation consistency concerns |
incorporated |
Question about this proposal not addressing quorum requirements for General Membership meetings |
While this could be addressed in a separate additional proposal, it should be noted that Maricopa County, Pima County and Yavapai County all specify NO quorum requirements for their General Membership meetings |
*All concerns are documented with a proposal if adopted.

Diversity of Identity bylaw amendment proposal
Whereas, the Arizona Green Party seeks to uplift the political voices and perspectives of those of varying gender, sexual, racial, ethnic, and other historically marginalized identities in our party and its leadership.
Whereas, the Arizona Green Party seeks to actively remove any unintentionally transphobic, nonbinary-phobic, or gender-exclusive language from our official party bylaws.
Whereas, the Arizona Green Party believes firmly in the validity, acceptance, and active inclusion of people(s) of all identities.
Whereas, in accordance with our Party’s pillar of “Social Justice”, we believe that our verbiage as a progressive independent political party must be inclusive of peoples of all identities.
Be it enacted by the AZGP, the following amendment(s) shall be made to Article IV, Section B of the party’s bylaws.
